We get a double feature on Monday Night Football in Week 7, with the Los Angeles Chargers visiting the Arizona Cardinals in the 9 p.m. ET kickoff.
Los Angeles is a short road favorite for its second straight road game after improving to 3-2 SU last Sunday. Arizona limps home after a one-sided squash at Green Bay in Week 6 with a slew of injuries on both sides of the football.
I give you my early Chargers vs.Cardinals predictions and best NFL picks for October 21.

You can’t have a free agency period without knowing who’s available. On Tuesday, the NFL announced what players have been officially hit with the “franchise player” tag in preparation for next week’s free agency period for the 2023 season that will begin on Wednesday, March 15 at 4:00 pm EST. This year’s crop included six non-exclusive franchise players, as no one was hit with the exclusive tag — exclusive players can’t negotiate terms with other teams, but non-exclusive ones can. The list includes Lamar Jackson, Tony Pollard, Evan Engram, Josh Jacobs, Saquon Barkley, and Daron Payne. Since free agency is all about money, here’s a look at the six players ranked based on what their checks are supposed to look like this upcoming season. 6. Tony Pollard — RB, Dalla…
Harold’s father, Geoffrey “Jacko” Jackson did not work for Thames Water but rather the Metropolitan Water Board (Obituary, 9 June). The idea of supplying water for profit would have been anathema to both Harold and his father. I remember when I worked with Jacko, how proud he was that his son worked for the Guardian.David F GroenEnfield, London
“These players have a level of humility that is really important. We pride ourselves on it,” says England’s manager (England ‘can’t be shrinking violets’ against Scotland, says Gareth Southgate, 17 June). Delighted to see the England team are proud of their humility.Dr Peter Phillips Swansea

Manchester United set out a dazzling Davos shop front this week but insisted its lounge was to entertain clients and partners rather than to attract buyers during the annual summit of the World Economic Forum, which begins on Monday.
United said in November they were looking at options to either get new investment or explore a potential sale, 17 years after the Glazer family bought the club.

There has been no update since, amid reports that bids from the United States, Middle East and Asia are expected to come in within the next month.
Ellie Norman, a spokesperson for the club, said the lounge was “definitely not” aim…
Ange Postecoglou could not hide his smirk when the question came about whether his record of second‑season success is about to continue in north London. “Dunno,” the Tottenham manager said. “I expect what I expect all the time, mate. To do my job and see what that brings. But I would suggest that it’s not by accident. We’ll improve and see where that takes us.”
After a summer of relative calm in comparison with his arrival before the start of last season, there was a clear sense of optimism as the straight‑talking Australian, who was one of the more insightful pundits employed by ITV at Euro 2024, laid out his expectations for the new campaign in the buildup to their opening match, against Leicester on Monday night.

[Updated] Will Levis was drafted by the Tennessee Titans with the 33rd overall pick. The Titans traded their second- (41) and third-round (72) picks to Arizona to get him. Will Levis is still on the board. As we’ve noted, despite the pre-draft hype — including an anonymous Redditor saying that the QB was telling friends and family he was going No. 1 overall to Carolina — the former Kentucky signal-caller is still without a pro team. He may not have to wait much longer. But then again, who knows? Are teams leery of an injury to his toe? Or perhaps his attitude? Or maybe GMs are sickened by the thought of someone putting Hellmann. We know it won’t be Carolina, Houston, Indianapolis, or either New York team, amongst a host of others who draft the 6-foot-3, 231-pound signal-c…
So Andy Dalton agreed to a contract extension with the Bengals, and even though the details of that deal have yet to be released, there was no shortage of football types gladly passing along the numbers as if they were real. Here:
And here: And here: And that, in turn, served as the catalyst for any number of gobsmacked reactions, like so: We've all been through this process before. An NFL writer throws out numbers on a new contract, and then there is a lag, and then all of those numbers are debunked. Ryan Glasspiegel from The Big Lead noted that Schefter did this exact same thing with Colin Kaepernick's deal just two months ago: Everything in that tweet turned out to be wrong. And yet we are still subjected to this process every single time there is a notable free a…
Major League Baseball announced it will suspend Alex Rodriguez for the remainder of this season and all of 2014 for his role in the Biogenesis scandal. It becomes effective Thursday. That's 211 games, by far the longest PED suspension ever handed out by baseball. He will appeal, and is expected to be in the Yankees' lineup tonight. From MLB's statement, the unprecedented punishment is based on his use and possession of numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances, including Testosterone and human Growth Hormone, over the course of multiple years…for attempting to cover-up his violations of the Program by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the Office of the Commissioner's investigation. Note the U. The UFL, United Football League, is a six team start-up league with decent backers—Mark Cuban among others. The UFL plans to begin play in 2009 (originally planned on a 2008 start) and would play all of their games on Fridays in the fall. Teams would be based in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Orlando, New York, and Hartford. UFL games would be on Friday because, interestingly, the NFL is banned under federal anti-trust law from playing any games on Friday (after 6 in the evening) within 75 miles of any high school or college game. Who's reporting that Vick might be a target of the UFL? Peter King, of course. King talked with the league's President, Michael Huyghue, who had this to say:
He said the chances of a UFL team signing Michael Vick to play the 2…
