Everton 1-0 Arsenal: Tarkowski dents Gunners´ title bid as Dyche makes immediate impact

Sean Dyche s Everton reign got off to a flying start as James Tarkowski s header handed Premier League leaders Arsenal a surprise 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park.

Everton looked revitalised in their first outing under the former Burnley boss, and it was two of his former Clarets players who combined for the winner – Tarkowski powering Dwight McNeil s corner home on the hour.

Arsenal were kept at arm s length by Everton during an unusually disjointed display, with the deserved victory dragging the Toffees – at least temporarily – out of the relegation zone.

Having suffered just their second league defeat of the season, the Gunners could see their lead at the summit cut to two points when title rivals Manchester City face Tottenham on Sunday.

Genoa 0-3 Milan: Ibrahimovic and Messias get Rossoneri back on track

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Junior Messias scored as Milan bounced back from successive Serie A defeats in style, beating Genoa 3-0 away from home on Wednesday.

Veteran centre-forward Ibrahimovic punished the poor positioning of a Genoa wall, firing in an early free-kick to settle any Milan nerves.

Messias then scored twice, heading past Salvatore Sirigu in first-half stoppage time before fizzing a low strike into the bottom corner just after the hour mark.

Genoa were hardly able to threaten the visitors, with Milan s dominance duly reflected in the scoreline as the Rossoneri moved to within a point of leaders Napoli.

Ibrahimovic opened the scoring in just the 10th minute, bending his free-kick around the centrally positioned wall and into the bottom-right co…

Can Inter or Milan deny Juve the Scudetto? – Stats Perform AI completes Serie A season

Inter beat Juventus. Juventus beat Milan. Milan beat Inter. For once it has been tough to predict the title race in Serie A.

Winning the Scudetto was not enough for Maurizio Sarri to keep his job at Juve last season, meaning Andrea Pirlo is under significant pressure as the Bianconeri chase a 10th straight league crown.

However, they have struggled to convince under the former midfield metronome and sit seven points adrift of leaders Milan in fourth, although they hold a game in hand.

There has seemingly never been a better chance for Inter, who are two points off top in second, and Milan to end Scudetto droughts that date back to 2009-10 and 2010-11 respectively.

Fans and pundits will continue to have their say on who will sit top come the end of the se…

Bodo/Glimt 0-1 Arsenal: Saka strike gives Gunners victory in Norway

Arsenal continued their excellent start to the campaign as a fortuitous first-half Bukayo Saka goal gave them a 1-0 away win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League, marking a sixth win in a row across all competitions.

A clever move gave the England international the ball in a good shooting position, and his deflected shot came back off the 21-year-old and into the net to give the Gunners the lead.

Bodo pressed for an equaliser in the second half, but a combination of Matt Turner and poor finishing allowed the Gunners to hold on for all three points.

Mikel Arteta s men made it 11 wins from 12 in all competitions to start the season as they consolidate their position at the top of Group A.

Neuer not ruling out future World Cup appearances after recovering for Germany´s trip to Qatar

Manuel Neuer has left the door open to representing Germany at another World Cup after this year s tournament in Qatar.

The goalkeeper, who won the Golden Glove at Brazil 2014 eight years ago with four clean sheets over seven games, looks set to play in his fourth edition later this month.

The Bayern Munich man has recovered from a shoulder injury, and is expected to be included in Hansi Flick s squad for Qatar 2022.

But Neuer has refused to rule out appearing at a fifth tournament, at the 2026 World Cup, when he will be 40 years old, keeping the door open for his international future.

You never know. I assume that it will be the last World Cup for me, but it doesn t have to be like that, he told Sports Illustrated.

Alexander-Arnold: Liverpool´s quadruple hunt ´special´, regardless of Premier League outcome

Trent Alexander-Arnold says Liverpool s quadruple tilt represents one of the greatest seasons from a Premier League side, regardless of the outcome of their final-day title tussle with Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp s team remain in contention for the second top-flight title of his tenure when they host Wolves at Anfield, having already won the EFL Cup and FA Cup, while reaching the Champions League final.

With Liverpool one point behind City and possessing an inferior goal difference, the Reds will need Pep Guardiola s men to slip up in their home game against Aston Villa to preserve their hopes of an unprecedented quadruple.

Liverpool and City have set a relentless pace at the top of the Premier League table this season with the Reds winning 15 and drawing th…

Croatia

Tipped by some pundits to finally clinch silverware this summer, Croatia began their seventh European Championship appearance — and sixth in a row — with a humbling 3-0 defeat to Spain in Berlin.

Once again outclassed by La Roja, who also bested them in last year s UEFA Nations League final, Croatia were down by three before halftime, and a missed penalty from Bruno Petkovic — who faced criticism from his manager for jumping th…

Bowen backs Alexander-Arnold to adapt to new England midfield role

Jarrod Bowen backed Trent Alexander-Arnold to flourish in England s midfield having started the Three Lions opening two games at Euro 2024.

The Liverpool vice-captain, who operates as a right-back for his club, has featured alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in England s win over Serbia and draw against Denmark on Thursday.

Alexander-Arnold s inclusion in Gareth Southgate s midfield was a huge talking point heading into the tournament, yet it remains to be seen whether he will continue in that role in their final Group C fixture against Slovenia.

The 25-year-old has been replaced in both games by Conor Gallagher in the second half, despite no player created more chances (3) or played more line-breaking passes in the final third (5) for England against D…
